I became a fan of Tyler a little after the release of Chromakopia. I became obssessed (fav album is Wolf) and saw him live TWICE!! Was superrrr excited for the release of a new album and preordered the vinyl and the CD from GolfWang. On one hand, I was expecting something similar to Chromakopia, since they were basically released back-to-back, but on the other hand, I didn't want to get my hopes up for a good album since it didn't have as long of production time that Tyler's previous albums. I think it met somewhere in the middle. I enjoy the album and I put a few of the songs onto my playlists, but it's not my favorite. I think it's a very fun, eccentric album, but it somewhat lacks the depth that I favor in his songs. It doesn't have the emotional depth of albums like Chromakopia- BUT I believe that's the point of the album, so it's not necessarily a bad thing!- and has less of the fun wordplay that I've grown the love and expect from him. I think the phone-less listening party that he hosted was a super cool and fitting for both Tyler's brand and this album specifically, though I am INSANELY jealous of everyone who went! I haven't actually played the vinyl or CD yet because I'm waiting to listen to it with my fellow Tyler-loving friend, but I've had alot going on so I haven't had time yet. Hopefully I'll remember to update this when I give it a listen, because I've heard the vinyl is slightly different from the online versions!
